Monet (aka My Daily Grey) sent me this video of the making of Gucci Spring 2010 because she knows how much I adore Natasha Poly. I hope you like it as well!

the market
photo: style
I love the contrast of Lakshmi's tribal skirt and breton striped top as well as the women swathed in sari's surrounding her.

In the Spirit of Capri
I have a soft spot for resort fashion, island glamour, and beautiful photos so books like In the Spirit of Capri always catch my eye. (hint: my birthday is next month!)

Splash
I spent the afternoon at the bookstore sifting through shelves of fashion/style/interior design coffee table books & magazines. Here's a room from Costal Living I very much enjoyed:
I love the splash of blue on the door, green from the palms, and yellow trim on the bed throw.

boutique
There's nothing like the feeling of stepping into a simple but well put together boutique.
Unfortunately, I don't remember where I found this photo or what the boutiques name is, but I love it anyways. Over the next few days, I'll feature some of my favorite boutiques on the island. Hope you're keeping warm in this unusually cold & windy weather.

Steeze
After reading this post by Garance Dore I was instantly intrigued by and attracted to the style of fashion stylist Jessica de Ruiter. de Ruiter has worked for magazines like Teen Vogue and Nylon and has styled ad's for companies like Roxy Quicksilver and Jenni Kayne. Her aesthetic is simple, wearable, and comfortable yet very chic. She has what I believe is steeze, or style with ease. As a stylist, I was very surprised to learn via Garance's post that she doesn't collect clothes. Instead, she constantly pares down her wardrobe so it only containes the essentials. Her daily uniform includes: button down shirts, high waisted jeans and skirts, versatile basis, big belts, the ubiquitous wayfares, and the occaisonal statement piece of jewlery.

Shangri La
While we're on the topic of India I thought I'd share one of my most favorite places to visit in Honolulu and that's Shangri La: Doris Duke's beautiful home located on the crystalline coast of Diamond Head. Duke's home boasts one of the largest collections of Islamic art and it was her honeymoon trip to India (to the Taj Mahal to be more specific) that caused her to fall in love with the Islamic culture. Her travels later took her to Hawaii where she was inspired to build a home that blended Islamic art with the Hawaiian landscape.

to india with love
I recently bought 'To India With Love' as a birthday gift for my friend. She's Indian and travels there often to see family so it was the perfect gift for her. After flipping through the book, with its psychedelic cover and vivid pages, I found I wanted to keep it for myself! Each of the pages has either pictures of the landscape, people, and textiles of India or a little story written by a melange of people. The stories, written by fashion designers like Alice Temperley to actresses like Natalie Portman, are about their personal connections to the country. It's a very inspiring book and what's great is that a proceed of the profits go to the victims of the attack in Mumbai in 2008 as well. Here's a sneak peak at some of the images inside the book:
